November Comic Book Haul

Now, for something a little different…

Welcome, to my very first comic book haul! Since last year, around Suicide Squad time, I’ve been dipping my toes into the world of graphic novels, and since finding a comic book store close by, I’ve actually bought some comics.

I only have three to show you today, because the world of comic books is a little daunting, to me, but here they are.

DC Universe Rebirth; Harley Quinn #1 by Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner

Co7_iYdXYAAu339I actually mistakenly bought this the same time I bought Haley Quinn; Die Laughing earlier in the year, because I didn’t realise it was collected into the novel. But you can’t have too much Harley, so I kept it around, since the art is pretty cute. Since I’ve already read Die Laughing, you’re more than welcome to check out my review of that (Spoiler free, of course) but, I might re-read this issue, and put it in my wrap-up anyway… let me know what you think. Anyway, this is basically Harley vs the zombie apocalypse, and is a lot of fun.

Batman: White Knight #1 by Sean Murphy

Batman_White_Knight_Vol_1_1I can’t quite work out where I first heard of this series, but as soon as I read that synopsis, I was sold. It was this that motivated me to find a comic book shop in the first place. One of the things I love most about DC is it’s ability to be dark and gritty (I’ve yet to come across that in Marvel, but recommendations are, as always, much appreciated), and this looks to be as dark and gritty as they come. As a newbie, I’m not sure if this plot is the result of something else, but Batman has gone insane and it’s up to the Joker to save Gotham. I mean, hello to deep, complicated characters, and blurred lines! I’m in!

Harley and Ivy Meet Betty and Veronica by Marc Andreyko and Paul Dini

HarleyIvyBettyVeronica.jpgDo you like Riverdale? I do! Do you like Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy? I do! This was, evidently, a no brainer for me, because it combines the two. Admittedly, I’ve never read any of the Archie comics, which Riverdale is loosely based on, but this looks like a lot of fun. I figured it would be a lot lighter than White Knight, and would be nice one to start off with. I may have already read this, so what I will say is simply you can imagine the chaos that Ivy and Harley would cause in Riverdale. That’s what this is going for, and it’s going to be interesting to see how these two different worlds mesh together.

Let me know if you’d like to see more of these in the future. I’ll probably be doing a wrap-up but I’m not sure when exactly. If you have any recommendations, obviously, send them my way!

Do you read comic books? And if so what is your favourite? If not, are you into the DCEU and/or the Marvel EU, and who are your favourite characters?

Thanks for reading!

Victoria
