Unboxing: Illuminate “Oh So Criminal” August 2018

I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve done an unboxing for you. So far, all of my unboxing have come from FairyLoot, but I’m here instead with an Illumicrate, so let’s see what was in there.

Let’s kick things off with the book for a change, which I successfully predicted as being Sarah J. Maas’ contribution to the DC Icons series, Catwoman; Soul Stealer. Last year I hauled Leigh Bardugo’s Wonder Woman book, and as I write this post I’m finally reading it. Luckily this series is made up of stand alone books so you can read them in any order, and this will be the one I turn to next. Honestly, I know very about the plot, but it involves Selina Kyle and Gotham, so I am sold. This, I believe, is an exclusive edition due to the magenta sprayed edges on the hardback. It’s a lovely copy, however, I have to admit that it’s a little disappointing it’s not signed, either by the author, or on a bookplate. Illumicrate never claimed it would be, but I just wish it was.

Next up another DC Comics item, and that being a art print featuring the Gotham City Sirens by @jamilamehio. It’s in a soft cartoon style, and feature Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman.

Another one of the suppliers that were revealed in advance was @elevenwickcandles, who, shock horror, provided us with a candle. And, what is a book box without a candle? This one is called “Perfect Heist”, and is scented with melon and water lily, going it lovely light scent.

Don’t you hate it it, when you’re busy on a heist and you chip a nail? Well, that struggle is over for me because I have a snazzy next glass nail fine from @HeyAtlasCreative. Inspire by Jay Kristoff’s Nevernight series, specifically the upcoming Darkdawn, it’s says .{..}

I had a couple of favourite items this month, and one of them was the tote bag from @kdpletters. I know I always say that I have a million totes but this one seems heavy duty, and is extra roomy. The typography on the front says “Villains are my bag”, and it couldn’t be more true.

Speaking of villains there was a necklace from @_down_the_rabbithole_ which is reversible. On the one side it says “antagonist” in a cute comic speech bubble, while the other says “protagonist”. I’m hoping to go to comic-con at the end of the month, and if I do I’ll definitely be wearing it then!

It’s always fun getting something you don’t already own, and maybe wouldn’t buy for yourself, and that item was the lanyard. Designed by @fableandblack it is inspired by one of my favourites, Six of Crows, and I can’t wait to put it to use.

One of the supplier reveals was @katieabey and that was an adorable Harry Potter themed coaster, involving the real OTP of the series, Sirius and Buckbeak. So cute!

Finally, the last official item it this cute compact mirror designed by @ReverieAndInk, and inspire by Holly Black’s Curseworker series, which I would love to read. After reading (and revising) The Cruel Prince earlier this year, maybe this is the next thing tor read from her?

There were also a couple of publishers goodies, including a Girl of Paper and Fire, and a Tempests and Slaughter postcard. Anther postcard advertising Harper 360, and a sampler for Sisters of the Winter Wood, which I know nothing about.

All in all I loved this box, and the fact that it comes quarterly, rather than monthly, is a lot nicer on my wallet, and my TBR. If Catwoman had been signed it would have been perfect, but you can’t have everything, and the quality and variety of the items defiantly made up for that. As it stands at the moment, I’ll probably be getting the next box, so long as I have the money.

What about you? Did you get this month’s illumicrate or any other bookish subsiciption box? Do you have a favourite item? Have you read any of the book that I haven’t?

Thanks for reading!

Victoria
